NT Insurance Conference speaker lineup revealed

The lineup of speakers for this year’s NT Insurance Conference has been revealed, featuring LMI Group Founder and complex claims adviser Allan Manning, experts from CGU and CHU Underwriting, and more.

To be held from October 18-20 at the Darwin Convention Centre, with the theme People, Purpose & Passion, the annual conference brings together more than 350 industry professionals. Young Insurance Professionals (YIPs) NT manages and runs the conference, which is free of charge to attend and was first held in 2012.

Winners of the Conference Awards – now in their 13th year – will be announced at a Gala Dinner on the final evening of October 20, with the dress code lounge suit/cocktail and the theme Old Hollywood.

YIPs NT President Travis Saxby says a lot of industry conferences are focusing on new technology and artificial intelligence and he “wanted to focus on the people within our industry that actually service the claims, the people that are the underlying backbone of the industry”.

“It should be fun. We're hoping that this is one of our best years, ever,” Mr Saxby tells insuranceNEWS.com.au. “This is our biggest ever year of sponsorship support so it has all the ingredients of being a good conference.”

YIPs NT is the largest branch in Australia and in recent years has had the largest contingent on the Australasian committee as well. The conference intends to provide “learning, development and motivation for the younger people that are coming through the industry,” Mr Saxby says.

“People like Allan Manning are important, they tend to draw in crowds of people that want to listen and improve and advance their career.”

“We are feeling the pinch up here on attracting and retaining young people in the NT in particular. The conference is a way that we can hopefully keep the people that we already have by giving them a pathway to advance and learn.”

Mr Saxby is Manager of Personal Injury Claims at TIO MAC and part of the Allianz Australia Personal Injury team. He was formerly a rehabilitation consultant in Sydney, and moved to Darwin to start a branch, becoming a seven-strong team committed to the NT, which he says offers opportunity to be a big fish in a smaller pond and fast track careers.

"I was only 30 when I took the position of head of claims for the CTP scheme. It is a land of opportunities, the NT, for people who are willing to commit to the community and spend a bit of time here.

“I certainly would not be in the position that I am if I had stayed in Sydney or Melbourne, and our community feels really passionate about the industry in the Territory because it does open a lot of doors.”
