NRMA Insurance, RACV-backed charity hits a million donations
Donation platform GIVIT, backed by NRMA Insurance and RACV, has provided more than a million essentials such groceries, technology and whitegoods to pandemic-impacted Australians a year into the two-year program.
GIVIT has seen requests for support double since the pandemic was declared. NRMA Insurance and RACV jointly donated $2 million a year ago to the covid relief program appeal, which serves as a ‘virtual warehouse’ where organisations can request specific items and services.
GIVIT CEO Sarah Tennant says the pandemic created extra burden for vulnerable people, with an escalation domestic violence rates, homelessness and financial hardship.
“The stress is bringing communities close to breaking point, as people find themselves unable to afford everyday items like food, bedding and school supplies,” GIVIT says.
The charity provided a large fridge and oven to an emergency relief centre in Port Adelaide, highchairs, a bassinet and pram to a young First Nations mother in Perth who was pregnant with twins and had escaped domestic violence, and groceries and clothing to a young unemployed family of six that required regular medical treatment in Newcastle.
“Even a small item can make a big difference to someone’s life,” RACV GM Social Impact and Corporate Communications Louise Steinfort said.
The Relief Program will continue to facilitate donations until September next year. Click here.
