NIBA wins federal backing for diploma courses

The National Insurance Brokers Association has won more funding for education programs over the next two years.

Late last month the association learned it had secured Federal Government funds to help 109 brokers complete the Diploma of Insurance Broking.

This follows a grant early last year for an initial 190 students to complete the course.

“This means that by early 2015 there will be an additional 300 brokers trained to diploma level,” CEO Dalls Booth told insuranceNEWS.com.au.

“All this is adding substantially to the number of people completing their formal training.”

Meanwhile, the association has launched a section of its website dedicated to the new Insurance Brokers’ Code of Practice, which took effect on January 1.

A training package will soon be finalised and sent to members.

“I am pretty sure a lot of companies we have been talking to will be mandating all of their staff to complete a course as soon as it’s available,” Mr Booth said.

Details on membership of the new Code Compliance Monitoring Committee will be announced in about two weeks, he says.

Meanwhile, Mr Booth says the composition of the NIBA board is unchanged following last week’s AGM in Sydney.
