NIBA reveals award winners at 40th anniversary dinner

CGU, NTI and Liberty Specialty Markets have been awarded top honours at this year’s National Insurance Brokers Association (NIBA) awards night.

WTW Account Director Property & Casualty Sally Coulton, Thompson Insurance Director William Thompson, and Insurance AdviserNet Founder Ian Carr took out the 2022 national individual prizes.

CGU was crowned General Insurer of the Year, while logistics specialist NTI won best Underwriting Agency for the second straight year.

“We’re absolutely thrilled to receive this award, which is the culmination of the work the team has been doing in continually building a better business around our brokers,” CGU EGM Damien Gallagher said.

“This is a significant industry award determined by broker feedback, ranking their overall experience in terms of product, service and brand strength.”

The awards were announced at a celebration dinner at the Ivy Ballroom in Sydney on Wednesday night, which marked NIBA’s 40th anniversary. Liberty Specialty Markets took out the Specialty Insurer category, a new award.

“Thank you to all of our broking partners for the recognition,” Liberty Specialty Markets said on LinkedIn. "We truly appreciate this feedback.”

Brisbane-based Ms Coulton was named the winner of this year’s QBE-sponsored Stephen Ball Memorial Award for Insurance Broker of the Year.

Sunshine Coast-based Mr Thompson was awarded the Vero-sponsored Warren Tickle Memorial Award for Young Professional Broker, while the Lex McKeown Trophy went to Mr Carr.

CEO Tony Clark said NTI’s back-to-back wins were a reflection of NTI staff being "relentless in their pursuit to do whatever it takes to support Australian businesses to operate at full capacity”.

“We continue to innovate, even on the things that we do well, and seek to understand and address the ever-changing needs of our specialist industries,” he said.

NTI’s EGM Commercial Mike Edmonds says NTI’s expertise in insurance, repairs, parts, its accredited repair and recovery networks, and advocacy enabled the team to "deliver above-and beyond within competitive turnaround times”.
