NIBA chief to visit north Queensland
National Insurance Brokers Association (NIBA) CEO Dallas Booth is to visit Cairns, Townsville, Mackay and Rockhampton this week as part of a north Queensland roadshow.
He will meet broker members to discuss local issues and concerns, including “real difficulties” with property and strata title insurance, which few insurers offer.
“Supply costs are a massive concern in this area,” Mr Booth told insuranceNEWS.com.au.
This year’s rise in stamp duty from 7.5% to 9% is an added burden. “In southeast Queensland it may be bearable, but in north Queensland it adds a further cost and adds to the challenges that brokers already have.”
The roadshow follows the NIBA communications survey in July, when some regional members requested more service.
Mr Booth and other key staff will also visit areas including Perth, Launceston, Hobart, Melbourne and northern NSW.
“I am keen to show my face and actually sit down with brokers in regional areas whenever I can,” Mr Booth said. “I want to find out first-hand what the issues are.”
Mr Booth says the former annual Sundowners roadshow has “run its course” and NIBA is finding new ways to engage with members.
“It may well be that in future years we develop a roadshow with the president and myself… that’s not out of the question.”
