Nautilus Marine partners with MIA

Nautilus Marine Insurance has partnered with the Marina Industries Association (MIA), supporting members and the broader marine industry with education, accreditation and marine risk awareness.

Nautilus, which specialises in insuring recreational vessels and marine business assets across Australia and New Zealand, is evaluating how to factor in MIA’s Gold Anchor and Clean Marina accreditation programs when assessing a marina’s risk profile.

“Participation in such voluntary programs can certainly give an insight in to the marina’s attitude towards environmental and operational risk management, important when conducting an insurance assessment,” it says.

Nautilus Marine Insurance CEO Lyndon Turner says the partnership will provide MIA members with greater awareness of their insurance risk and worldwide trends.

“Our aim is to grow with the MIA and support their initiatives and training programs. Well-run marinas ... should be recognised and rewarded,” he said.

MIA CEO Suzanne Davies says marina managers are asked by their customers daily to advise on vessel insurance and the partnership would help it provide information and guidance to members in “this complex and necessary area of their business management”.

The MIA represents marinas, boatyards and industry suppliers in Australia and the Asia-Pacific and has over 300 corporate members.

The International Clean Marina Program has accredited 60 marinas, boatyards, and associated industry operators in Australia and aims to promote clean water.

Gold Anchor is an international accreditation audit of 86 criteria. It has accredited over 200 marinas across

27 countries. The MIA delivers the program in Australia, Asia-Pacific and in the US, in association with the Marine Recreation Association (MRA).

Nautilus protects over 45,000 vessel owners and marine industry members and has been a specialist supplier of pleasure craft and marine business assets and liability insurance for more than 15 years.
