Natural Hazards Research Forum: big ideas to build safer communities

A three-day Natural Hazards Research Australia forum will be held in Melbourne next month to advance research and promote innovation.

Keynote speakers include Coordinator-General for Emergency Management at the National Emergency Management Agency Brendan Moon, and natural disaster expert Prof Daniel Aldrich, from Northeastern University in the US.

Research project presentations will focus on disaster risk reduction and resilience, learning from recent disasters, policy and strategy, community resilience, healthy landscapes and more, while workshops will offer enhanced engagement.

Natural Hazards Research Australia CEO Andrew Gissing told insuranceNEWS.com.au the priority is finding solutions to build “safer and more resilient communities”.

“The forum is about promoting innovation, big thinking, big ideas, and what policy changes are required for the next decade,” he said.

“There is a sense of urgency with climate change and the disasters that we have seen recently.

“It is also a good networking opportunity and a chance for insurance professionals to connect with those making decisions in government.”

The forum takes place from May 1-3 at RMIT University, Melbourne City Campus.
