Lloyd’s joins ICA board
Lloyd’s General Representative in Australia Adrian Humphreys has been appointed to the Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) board.
It’s the first time Lloyd’s has been represented on the ICA board in more than 25 years as a council member.
Mr Humphreys told insuranceNEWS.com.au he is “delighted” with the appointment, which was confirmed at the council’s AGM in Sydney last week.
“Lloyd’s has a lot of experience as a major catastrophe player,” he said. “I’m also particularly interested in ICA’s involvement in the image of the insurance industry.”
Local insurers have in the past resisted having the market represented at board level.
Mr Humphreys is also a non-executive board member of the Underwriting Agencies Council (UAC), but he says his role there has “a very different focus”.
“UAC is there to promote agencies and to provide access to specialist underwriting expertise,” he said. “ICA promotes the industry as a whole to consumers and is involved with regulation.”
Swiss Re Head of Australia & New Zealand Mark Senkevics joined the board following the resignation in December of Gen Re CEO Chris Crowder, who has been promoted to Senior VP and Head of Global Property Facultative business in the US.
IAG Group CEO Mike Wilkins also stepped down as a board member in December, and was replaced by CEO Direct Insurance Business Andy Cornish.
The updated list of ICA board members is:
Rob Scott, Wesfarmers Insurance (President); Mark Milliner, Suncorp (Vice President); Ian Berg, FM Insurance; Noel Condon, Chartis Australia; Andy Cornish, IAG; Shane Doyle, Zurich; Heinrich Eder, Munich Re; Colin Fagen, QBE; Adrian Humphreys, Lloyd’s Australia; Mike McCarthy, RAC-WA; Mark Senkevics, Swiss Re; and Terry Towell, Allianz Australia.
