Lloyd’s CEO tops LGBT power list

Lloyd’s CEO Inga Beale has become the first woman – and the first bisexual – to top a power list of the world’s top 100 lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) executives.

The annual ranking aims to highlight business role models, and encourage workplace openness.

Qantas CEO Alan Joyce took second place in the rankings, compiled by networking group OUTstanding and the Financial Times.

Ms Beale was named the first female CEO in Lloyd’s 327-year history in January last year.

“She is also one of the few – perhaps the only – openly bisexual business leaders at her level,” the report says.

“She has launched a market modernisation program, increased Lloyd’s global presence by opening offices in Dubai and Beijing and spearheaded Inclusion@Lloyd’s, an initiative that aims to ensure Lloyd’s is a diverse and inclusive market.

“She has also been instrumental in the launch of Pride@Lloyd’s, an internal LGBT employee resource group, and has supported LGBT insurance employee network LINK.”

Lloyd’s General Representative in Australia Chris Mackinnon told insuranceNEWS.com.au the accolade is “fantastic news”.

“She is a remarkable woman who has done remarkable things for Lloyd’s,” he said.

“There has been a lot of change in the insurance industry and the acceptance of diversity across all aspects is wonderful. We are very proud.”
