Legal eagles fly in for AILA gathering

A smorgasbord of legal topics awaits delegates at the Australian Insurance Law Association’s annual conference in Melbourne next month.

Organisers say they aim to have a program that “will be of interest to a wide range of insurance professionals”.

Subjects range from insurer websites and commentary on comparator sites to a panel discussion about concussive brain injuries.

Participants in the conference, at the Grand Hyatt Melbourne on October 14-16, include local insurance and legal leaders.

Overseas luminaries due to speak include International Insurance Law Association Presidential Council member Pierpaolo Marano from the Catholic University in Milan, and Meryl Lieberman, a senior partner at New York law firm Traub, Lieberman Straus & Shrewsberry, who was involved in the negotiated settlement of a class action against the US National Football League over concussive injuries.

The local legal fraternity is well represented in the program, with former High Court justice Kenneth Hayne giving the keynote speech on October 15.

Victorian Supreme Court judge Rita Zammit will moderate a debate titled “Good faith is not good for you”, and the event will close with a lunch at the MCG.
