Insurers honoured at Australian LGBTQ inclusion awards
The insurance industry has been recognised at this year’s Australian LGBTQ Inclusion Awards, with QBE becoming the first insurer to qualify for top level platinum employer status, while NRMA took out the “most improved” gong.
QBE moves to platinum status after clinching gold status for a fourth year at the latest awards – the qualifying threshold for top LGBTQ employer recognition.
Allianz, Zurich and law firm DLA Piper achieved silver accreditation, while NRMA, IAG, Hollard and the Australian Securities & Investments Commission (ASIC) made bronze.
QBE Australia Pacific Chief People Officer Shiona Watson says it was an “absolute honour” to be recognised.
“An inclusive workplace is embedded in our DNA,” she said. “I’m incredibly proud of our QBE Pride Committee and our Diversity and Inclusion team. This award is a testament to their great work, and to all of our QBE employees who champion inclusivity.”
The awards are based on the Australian Workplace Equality Index benchmark that annually assesses the progress and impact of LGBTQ inclusion initiatives. This year 172 organisations participated.
For the second year in a row, consulting firm Capgemini Australia was named Employer of the Year. Boston Consulting Group was Small Employer of the Year.
“It’s important that efforts are acknowledged and celebrated, and that we continue to build upon all the amazing achievements being made,” ACON Pride Inclusion Programs Director Dawn Emsen-Hough said.
“I congratulate them all on their impressive achievements and for showing leadership in LGBTQ inclusion.”
