The insurance industry runs some of the best internships in the country, according to a survey of 800 undergraduates by the Australian Association of Graduate Employers.

Claims management specialist Gallagher Bassett Services leads the industry with its overall eighth placing in the top 25 list, followed by Allianz Australia in 12th and Suncorp Group in 18th position.

“We are pleased to be recognised for our intern program, which ranks us among the top performers nationally,” Allianz Chief Human Resources Manager Tim Dawson said.

“The ranking highlights that our interns value Allianz’s program and affiliative culture and corporate values.”

A spokesman for Suncorp told insuranceNEWS.com.au it had consistently ranked in the top 25 for the past four years and “is pleased again to have made the list in 2016. As the ranking is based on feedback from interns who have participated in our program we are very pleased with the result and we will continue to improve our program for future intakes. 

“Suncorp’s intern program is a major talent pipeline into our graduate program (approximately 70% of interns transition to the graduate program) with approximately 120 graduates recruited each year across Australia and New Zealand. Interns and graduates are part of our overall workforce strategy to continue to build our technology, insurance and financial services capabilities.”

WA’s state-owned Water Corporation tops the overall list.
