Industry pays respect to revered loss adjuster
Tributes from across the industry have been paid to former Cunningham Lindsey New Zealand CEO Martyn Norrie, who died on May 30.
Mr Norrie headed the loss adjuster’s New Zealand branch from 1997 to 2013 and stayed as a senior adviser following his departure as CEO. The firm was acquired by Sedgwick in 2018 and renamed under the Sedgwick brand.
Mr Norrie also founded an insurance and legal consultancy company, Nine Dots Limited, in 2013.
Insurance Council of New Zealand CEO Tim Grafton credited Mr Norrie for his contributions in handling settlements for complex multi-building claims involving shared owners in the aftermath of the 2011 Canterbury Earthquakes.
“Some units were uninsured, and others insured with several insurers,” Mr Grafton told insuranceNEWS.com.au.
“Agreement was required across all homeowners on reinstatement plans and in some instances, there were historic disagreements and issues between neighbours to contend with too.
“Martyn’s calm and expert approach working with insurers and homeowners resulted in the successful resolution of these complicated claims enabling people to get on with their lives.”
Further tributes also flooded Mr Norrie’s LinkedIn page, which announced his death last week.
“An amazing human being that I had the honour of being appointed CEO by and received mentoring over the years,” former Cunningham Lindsey CEO and current Sedgwick South Africa CEO Ken Maclean said.
“Martyn was a great leader who used humour and a gentle spirit in such an endearing manner,” former Cunningham Lindsey Executive and current CRU Group CEO David Repinski said.
Mr Norrie was honoured with a Queen’s Service Order award in 2019 for his contributions to the community, after serving on the boards of several organisations and non-profit groups.
A remembrance service will be held for Mr Norrie on June 6 at the Rotorua Baptist Church at 1pm. An online service will be available on the Rotorua Baptist Church’s Facebook.
