ICNZ chief Chris Ryan resigns

Insurance Council of New Zealand (ICNZ) CEO Chris Ryan will leave ICNZ in December after 15 years in the role.

He says he wants new challenges.

“I looked at the history of ICNZ chief executives since 1905 and mine is the second-longest tenure in that job,” he told insuranceNEWS.com.au.

“I think it’s important there’s a fresh face and style for the industry body.”

Mr Ryan says key issues during his tenure have included the Canterbury earthquakes, workers’ compensation changes and bringing New Zealand closer to the Australian regulatory regime.

Although he does not have any particular direction planned yet, he is looking forward to a break over Christmas and New Year.

To ensure a smooth transition, he is staying until a replacement has been appointed.

“By providing the board and membership with adequate time to make the necessary changes, there will be no reduction in confidence or effectiveness in ICNZ.”
