icare backs new adaptive sports website

NSW Government Insurance and Care provider, icare, has helped launch a new website to help promote accessible adaptive sports and recreation programs.

The Adaptive Movement website includes more than 150 adaptive sport and recreation activities throughout NSW and the ACT that provide accommodating conditions for disabled, impaired, and older Australians.

NSW Employee Relations and Finance Minister Damien Tudehope says the website will be a “game changer” in promoting active and healthy lifestyles.

The website helps users connect with providers to inform them of nearby adaptive sports and recreation programs.

“The Adaptive Movement will make a big difference to the lives of many of the people icare helps support,” icare CEO Richard Harding said.

“We’ve seen first-hand how crucial it can be for people’s physical and mental wellbeing after a serious injury and are thrilled to be supporting an easier way for people to get involved in adaptive sport and recreation.”

NSW and ACT Wheelchair Sports CEO Mick Garnett encourages all adaptive sports providers to promote their programs on the website.

“The conditions are right for the launch of a revolution in the way people get active,” Mr Garnett said.

“We have an Australian of the Year in Dylan Alcott from Adaptive Sport, and a 10-year horizon to an Australian Paralympic Games in Brisbane, so now is the time to change how people get more active if they want their sport adapted just for them.”
