ICA seminar to focus on financial system inquiry
Assistant Treasurer Arthur Sinodinos will give the keynote address at an Insurance Council of Australia regulatory update, where the forthcoming financial system inquiry will be high on the agenda.
Swiss Re Australia/New Zealand Head Mark Senkevics will chair a panel discussing the likelihood of the Murray inquiry scrutinising the insurance industry.
Panellists include Deloitte Access Economics partner Ian Harper – who last year warned the industry to solve the affordability issue or face being regulated – Australian Centre for Financial Studies director Deborah Ralston and Financial Counselling Australia ED Fiona Guthrie.
Shadow Treasurer Chris Bowen and business adviser Bernard Salt are among the other speakers.
Australian Prudential Regulation Authority Deputy Chairman Ian Laughlin and Australian Securities and Investments Commission Deputy Chairman Peter Kell will outline the latest regulatory developments.
Over lunch, political journalist Laura Tingle is set to discuss the political situation following the change of government and its implications for the financial services sector.
The Sydney seminar will run from 9am-5pm on February 28.
