ICA hits Broome to spotlight northwest risks
The Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) will host a community forum in Broome tonight to examine issues affecting the region.
“The northwest of Australia faces very different risks to most other parts of the country,” ICA says. “This can understandably lead to concerns regarding insurance availability and affordability.”
Topics will include local issues driving premiums, how mitigation can reduce costs and avoiding underinsurance and claims difficulties.
The Bureau of Meteorology says Broome and surrounding areas received record-breaking rainfall last wet season due to tropical cyclones and low-pressure systems.
Models suggest an average to below-average number of tropical cyclones in the northwest this season, but there is still the likelihood of two coastal impacts and a significant risk of at least one severe cyclone making landfall.
