IAG reopens school-leaver recruitment program
IAG’s Intermediated Insurance Australia division has launched the second round of its NextGen Ambition Program for high school and TAFE graduates to fast-track insurance careers.
The division, which includes major brands such as CGU, puts participants to work with a mentor across areas including underwriting, risk, finance, communications and product.
IAG says the second round follows a pilot with six high school graduates who worked across its operations for 12 months. It says most now have full-time roles at IAG or in the industry.
People, capability and communication EM Natalie May, who oversees the program, says it offers a barrier-free entry into insurance.
“Not having a degree should not preclude people from pursuing a career in insurance,” she said. “This program provides that opportunity, giving bright and ambitious young people the chance to learn and develop new capabilities in a fast-paced environment.”
Ms May says such initiatives, along with university graduate programs, are needed to attract new talent.
“We’ve got to change the way we do things because the world is changing. We need to be more innovative, open-minded and thoughtful as to how we attract and retain talent.
“It can’t just be one way is the right way. There should be multiple channels and approaches as to how we bring talent into the business.”
Applications for the NextGen program are open until January 10, with roles available in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth.
