German industrial insurer HDI-Gerling has appointed Tom Hughes as Marine Underwriting Manager, Southern Region, based in Melbourne. 

The cargo specialist was most recently at Zurich, where he was marine underwriting manager for Victoria and Tasmania from December 2012.

Mr Hughes has 10 years’ experience in marine underwriting, including international roles at Tokio Marine and Amlin.

He began his career at Lloyd’s of London before moving to Australia three years ago.

“With his international experience we are further strengthening our offering in marine cargo and expanding our presence in Melbourne,” HDI-Gerling Australasia MD Stefan Feldmann said.
