Hazards webinar to examine LA fires

Natural Hazards Research Australia will host a webinar this week on lessons learnt from the Los Angeles fires.

The session, held in conjunction with the National Council for Fire and Emergency Services, will discuss the experience on the ground in California, scientific implications and whether fires like those in Los Angeles could happen in Australia.

US-based Kelly Martin, who was on the ground in Los Angeles with a “strike team” from Idaho, will be among the speakers. She is the owner of Lasair Fire Consulting and immediate past president of the International Association of Wildland Fire.

The panel also includes fire services council CEO Rob Webb, Natural Hazards Research Australia CEO Andrew Gissing and professor of pyrogeography and fire science David Bowman.

The webinar begins at 11am on Thursday. More details are available here
