Hayne changes added to Insurance Contracts Act handbook
Minter Ellison has released the eleventh edition of its Insurance Contracts Act Handbook, with the latest version including changes introduced following the Hayne royal commission.
The updated handbook, launched last week, incorporates amendments to the act and commentary on important case law developments over the three years since the previous edition.
“We first started producing the Insurance Contracts Act Handbook nearly 30 years ago, and the insurance legislative landscape has changed substantially since then,” Partner and Publishing Editor Chern Tan said. “But what hasn’t changed is its complexity.”
Information in the latest edition includes the extension of the unfair contract terms regime to insurance, which took effect from April 5.
The handbook also reflects the rise in cases on the duty of utmost good faith and developments around fraudulent non-disclosure and insurers’ remedies.
“With our handbook, we aim to give our clients the tools they need to navigate and simplify a complicated legislative landscape, enabling them to fast track their work and lead them to successful outcomes,” Mr Tan said.
