Growth of Asia insurance fuelling demand for legal experts

Increasing insurance penetration in Asia is creating demand for insurance professionals and particularly insurance lawyers, says President of the Australian Insurance Law Association (AILA) David Lee.

AILA’s Asia-Pacific committee is working on how Australian lawyers can share learning and education with counterparts in the region, he told insuranceNEWS.com.au after AILA’s conference last week.

Mr Lee says education and passing on knowledge are the “heart and soul” of the organisation and AILA members can offer expertise to newer insurance law chapters that are developing in tandem with growing insurance markets.

AILA is supporting Singapore to host a regional insurance law conference in 2016, with Mr Lee saying the city state is seeing the fastest insurance growth in the region, particularly after Lloyd’s Asia opened there 10 years ago.

He says AILA’s success led to a conference presentation to the presidential council of the global organisation AIDA, the Association Internationale de Droit des Assurances, which heard that engagement with the industry is critical to the chapter’s success.
