Gill set to take global presidency
Leading Sydney lawyer Michael Gill is a frontrunner for the presidency of the peak global body for insurance lawyers, the Association Internationale de Droit des Assurances (AIDA).
He is the founding president of the Australian Insurance Law Association (AILA) and is currently one of four AIDA vice presidents.
Mr Gill retired from full-time work at Sydney-based law firm DLA Phillips Fox last year, although he still acts as a consultant to the company.
The vote for the four-year presidency of UK-based AIDA will take place next month, shortly before its world congress in Paris.
Our earlier report suggested the appointment is a foregone conclusion. However, while Mr Gill is regarded as likely to assume the presidency following the withdrawal of another vice president, the result will not be finalised until the ballot is held.
