Gas plant repair job brought to book

A $25 million storm damage claim at a Brisbane gas plant has led to publication of an e-book detailing the complex incident’s successful handling.

Buildings and infrastructure at the seven-hectare BOC Australia site were hit by a severe hailstorm on November 27 2014, forcing the business to temporarily relocate.

The premises were insured by parent company Linde Group under an Allianz global policy, with cover for property, stock and business interruption.

Engineering consultant ICPS Australia was appointed project manager for the rebuild and relocation.

Its CEO Brad Nicholls says challenges included the need to minimise business interruption losses for Queensland’s primary gas supplier, the hazardous nature of the operations, the presence of asbestos and subsequent site contamination.

“The business was temporarily relocated while clean-up work was conducted on-site,” Mr Nicholls said. “But for BOC customers disruption was minimal, which was the project team’s aim.”

ICPS says it commissioned a comprehensive case study of how the claim was managed, and has produced the free e-book as an educational tool for the insurance industry.
