FPA hopeful of membership change
The Financial Planning Association (FPA) is confident its move to remove the “principal” membership category will be passed at next month’s extraordinary general meeting.
If it is passed, the only voting category in the FPA will be individual association members.
At least 75% of members will have to vote in favour of the proposal, and the FPA has been running a series of national roadshows explaining the move.
FPA CEO Mark Rantall says feedback from the roadshows indicates the move will be supported by the membership, with 85% of those attending saying they would vote in favour.
“Clearly the members are very much in favour of the new FPA and its journey towards building Australians’ respect for financial planners as trusted professionals,” he said.
“This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity for change and we’re calling on all members to vote yes for their professional recognition.”
The membership has the opportunity to vote electronically before the meeting, which will be held in Melbourne on April 7
