Community Underwriting backs more worthy causes

Community Underwriting’s annual small grants program helped 24 projects last year.

Recipients included a project raising awareness of musculoskeletal conditions, a book for female victims of domestic abuse, a home for sick donkeys and a project developing a pocket guide for dealing with heart attacks.

Additional contributions came from insurance partners Berkley Insurance and Mitsui Sumitomo, allowing the specialist underwriting agency to respond to more projects.

Executive Director Graeme Berwick told insuranceNEWS.com.au Community Underwriting’s has given $164,000 in 88 grants since early 2013.

The agency is majority owned by 13 non-profit clients and sets aside 5% of its surplus for the grant program.

“Our grants program enables us to continue to reinvest our clients’ insurance dollars back into the sector every year,” the company says.
