Claims Convention promises wide-ranging line-up

Speakers from Lloyd’s, QBE, Aon and Allianz will feature at this year’s Claims Convention in Sydney in August.

Registrations are open for the event, jointly run by the Australasian Institute of Chartered Loss Adjusters and the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance.

The convention, covering issues ranging from driverless cars to cyber crime, terrorism cover and Big Data, is expected to attract about 300 delegates.

Lloyd’s General Representative for Australia Chris Mackinnon is a keynote speaker, as is social commentator Keith Suter. Christine Boardman, Executive General Adjuster of Crawford & Company Australia, will make the opening address.

Australian Reinsurance Pool Corporation CEO Chris Wallace will talk on terror claims in commercial property insurance, and The Forensic Group’s Anna Sandiford will discuss the use of expert witnesses in claims.

NSW Police Commander of Fraud and Cyber Crime Arthur Katsogiannis will also address the convention.

The event, themed “meeting the challenge”, will also feature workshops.

QBE Investigations Specialist Claims Geoffrey Bowen will present a session on insurance fraud, and Gallagher Bassett’s Julian Martin and Peter Walker will host a Big Data workshop.

Taylor Fry’s Scott Duncan and Catherine Weston will explore how innovations in hybrid, electric and driverless cars affect motor insurance, and Allianz Global Assist EGM People, Culture & Community John White will hold a session on complex travel claims.

A panel discussion on cyber-insurance claims will feature DLA Piper partner Alec Christie and Aon Risk Services Cyber Risks Practice Leader Eric Lowenstein.

The convention is on August 5-6 at the Sofitel Sydney Wentworth. A gala dinner will be held on the first night at Doltone House.
