Claims challenges to be tested in Singapore

Challenges for loss adjusters in a rapidly changing insurance market will be a feature of discussions at the Asian Claims Convention in Singapore next month.

Specialist presentations on marine and aviation risks and fire, explosions and contamination are just some of the topics to be covered at the convention, with experts from across Asia and Australia speaking to an audience drawn from claims and loss adjusting companies from around the world.

The convention, organised by the Australasian Institute of Chartered Loss Adjusters, will run over three days from April 2-4.

The keynote address will be given one of the global loss adjusting industry’s best-known experts, Alan Cleary.

The former loss adjuster and Lloyd’s managing agent is also a former president of the Chartered Insurance Institute and the Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters, as well as a former chairman of the UK Institute of Risk Management.

In 1997 Mr Cleary was appointed by the United Nations Secretary-General as a commissioner of the UN Compensation Commission, with responsibility for settling vast numbers of corporate claims arising out of the Iraqi invasion and occupation of Kuwait.

His role ended more than seven years later with 2.6 million property and business interruption claims successfully adjusted. His involvement with UN affairs continues in Gaza.

Mr Cleary will speak on the art of negotiation, especially aimed at loss adjusters and claims specialists, with advice on “getting away with getting your own way”.
