CII rolls dice with new board game
Where Monopoly popularised real estate speculation and Scrabble made dictionaries cool, the UK Chartered Insurance Institute is rolling the dice with a board game incarnation of its own.
With less than 5% of UK students viewing insurance as an attractive career proposition, the CII has launched Discover Risk, a new board game it hopes will pique the curiosity of school-leavers.
The board game presents a range of scenarios to players, who must work in teams to assess the risks associated with each scenario. Risks vary from a pop singer losing their voice to weather ruining filming on a movie set.
“The game develops key skills that employers look for, such as communication, problem-solving, negotiation and teamwork,” CII Relationship Manager Caspar Bartington said.
CII has piloted the game in 35 UK schools with almost 1000 students.
“Playing the game dramatically changes students’ perceptions of insurance, with 70% saying they would actively consider a career in the profession after playing the game,” Mr Bartington said.
