CGU backs race for equality

CGU Insurance has secured naming rights sponsorship for Move in May – a fun run to promote equality for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer (LGBTIQ) community.

The inaugural event is organised by Stand Up Events, which works to address the under-representation of the LGBTIQ community in mainstream sport.

IAG EGM Broker Business Donna Walker says CGU is proud to help raise awareness of inequality in Australian sporting culture.

“Sport is the backbone of our national identity and events such as Move in May will help LGBTIQ people gain greater acceptance in our communities,” she said.

Stand Up Events founder Angie Greene says she is excited about working with CGU.

She says the fun run next year coincides with International Day against Homophobia and Transphobia, and is “for everyone who believes in equality – rainbow or otherwise”.

“Move in May is a creative, fun and powerful platform to show the world that Australia is an inclusive society,” Ms Greene said.

The event is on May 22 at Melbourne’s Tan Track, and is expected to attract more than 5000 participants.
