CEOs to brave 'extreme challenge' for cancer research fundraiser

Steadfast CEO Robert Kelly and Gallagher Australia CEO Sarah Lyons have signed up for another Children’s Cancer Institute fundraiser for medical research.

It will be Mr Kelly’s third straight year of taking part in the CEO Dare to Cure event, in which participants choose from a list of challenges such as an ice bath, snake bath and “walking the plank” off an 80-storey skyscraper.

“Yet again I have agreed to step out of my comfort zone to take on a dare at this important fundraising event,” Mr Kelly said.

“Every single week in Australia, 20 children are diagnosed with cancer and it still kills more children than any other disease.

“The Children’s Cancer Institute’s goal is to put an end to childhood cancer and pioneer safer treatments for children through medical research.”

He is aiming to raise at least $5000 and Dare to Cure has set a $1.5 million target for this year.

Ms Lyons, who did the snake bath challenge last year, is also aiming to raise $5000 or more.

“In 2021 CEO Dare to Cure raised $1.6 million and I was delighted to be part of it,” Ms Lyons told insuranceNEWS.com.au. “I took on the snake bath dare despite being absolutely petrified of snakes. What’s a little bit of discomfort for me compared to what these children have to go through?

“In 2022 there is an equally terrifying selection of dares to be done and I’ve invited my Gallagher colleagues, friends and market colleagues to donate and vote on which dare I have to do.”

Dare to Cure will take place in Sydney on September 16 at Fleet Steps in the Botanic Gardens and Melbourne – a new addition this year – on October 14 at The Timber Yard in Port Melbourne.
