Cash up for grabs, as NIBA scholarships open

The National Insurance Brokers Association (NIBA) is seeking applicants for scholarships worth more than $24,000.

The Frank Earl Memorial Scholarship pays for one broker to complete their graduate diploma in financial services with NIBA College.

The $10,000 prize, sponsored by Pacific Premium Funding, is named after broker Frank Earl, a key player in the professional indemnity market and advocate of broker education until his death in 2010.

Applicants should provide evidence of leadership activities, mentoring, participation in educational programs and ethical conduct.

The CPIB (Certified Professional Insurance Broker) Professional Excellence Scholarships are also open.

Four $3600 awards – sponsored by CGU – will allow winners to complete the CPIB program, which provides hands-on professional development, tailored to participants’ interests and career goals.

Entrants should demonstrate involvement in special leadership projects and submit a 500-word essay on the meaning of professionalism.

Applicants for both scholarships must have a diploma of financial services (insurance broking) or have completed a university degree and a suitable diploma-level short course in insurance broking.

They must also be employed or contracted to a NIBA member, be a member of NIBA College and be a Qualified Practising Insurance Broker (QPIB).

Applicants for the CPIB program must have held the QPIB designation for at least two years.

They must also have at least six years’ experience as a practising insurance broker.
