Marine risk expert Joseph Alphonse will be the guest speaker when the Melbourne Marine Insurance Forum meets next week.

Captain Alphonse, formerly a superintendent with the Malaysian merchant marine and a deputy harbourmaster for the Port of Melbourne, will speak on trends and issues in risk management.

Forum secretary Simon Farmer told insuranceNEWS.com.au more brokers are attending the group’s events to learn about the sector and then write marine business.

Captain Alphonse joined the Allianz Global Corporate and Specialty Pacific team last year, under a program to increase the insurer’s foothold in the marine sector.

The forum event is at 11am next Tuesday at the offices of DLA Piper in Melbourne.
