Insurance & Care NSW (icare) CEO Vivek Bhatia has been announced as insurance leader of the year at the annual Australian Insurance Industry Awards.

Aon was named large broking company of the year, with GSA Insurance Brokers the best medium broker and Austbrokers Coast to Coast winning the small broker prize.

Allianz Australia was named large general insurance company of the year, while the leading small-medium insurer was RAA Insurance.

Former NRMA Insurance CEO and Suncorp chairman John Lamble was given the ANZIIF lifetime achievement award.

The awards are organised and hosted by the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF). They were presented at The Star in Sydney on Thursday night.

• Innovation of the year: Suncorp’s Cyclone Resilience Benefit
• Life insurance company: AIA Australia
• Underwriting agency of the year: CHU Underwriting Agencies
• Direct general insurance company: NRMA Insurance
• Young insurance professional: Kimberley Jonsson, CHU Underwriting Agencies.
