Banker’s essay wins ANZIIF scholarship

Commonwealth Bank employee Louise Baker has won the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF) TurksLegal Claims Scholarship.

Customer Experience Manager Ms Baker examined meanings for the term “caused by” in her essay on the “proximate or effective cause of loss”.

Her work gives a “new perspective on the issue”, according to TurksLegal’s general insurance practice head Paul Angus.

“With ‘caused by’ appearing in almost every insurance policy, it is refreshing to have a fresh look at what these words actually mean, especially when there is more than one cause,” he said.

As part of the $8000 scholarship Ms Baker will attend the Claims Conference & Insurance Service Expo in Boston, US, next March.

The ANZIIF TurksLegal Claims Scholarship is now in its fifth year.
