Bali ash threat forces AICLA move to Phuket

Volcanic activity in Bali has forced the Australasian Institute of Chartered Loss Adjusters to move its next Asian Claims Convention from the Indonesian holiday island to Phuket in Thailand.

CEO Tony Libke says ongoing eruptions from Mount Raung and the threat of ash clouds over Bali disrupting the event led to the decision.

“The convention venue in Phuket is currently being finalised and will be advised shortly,” he told insuranceNEWS.com.au. “The dates have been locked in for April 20-22, the week following the national holiday period, Songkran.

“It’s just good risk management to move the venue when you have delegates coming from all over the Asia-Pacific region,” Mr Libke said.

“Airlines have been forced to cancel flights in the past couple of months when the ash cloud proves troublesome, and we’re not prepared to risk delegates being unable to fly in or out.

“The facilities in Phuket are of a very high standard and we expect the location and venue will be popular with delegates.”
