BAIS contest showcases IT/insurance talent combo

The team at BAIS Insurance Technology has showcased its rare two-industry talent combination with a competition for the most creative video depicting how many years of experience in each sector its experts have clocked up.

The BAIS developer and support teams each produced competing videos and pictures to reveal their rare level of expertise in both IT and insurance.

“It’s a combination of talents that is uncommon in our industry,” BAIS insurance technology CEO David Hampton said. “We are all feeling a bit stuck with the on-going lockdown so we wanted to do something that was a bit of fun and also showcase how experienced the team is in both IT and insurance.”

In the winning developer video, Head of Development and Implementation Murray Oakley stands holding skis in the fore of a snow-capped background. He holds a sign, in the style of Bob Dylan’s Subterranean Homesick Blues music video, saying he has been “addicted to skiing since 1982”.

“32 years in IT to fund my addiction,” the next card reads, followed by “and… nine years in insurance”.

Mr Oakley beat a “Dreaming of big adventures” entry by senior systems analyst and programmer Anthony Boyle, who slept on a map of London, woke and flipped the map to expose he has 34 years in insurance and 10 years in insurance.

Another submission from “newbie” Analyst Matt Sarioglu held a sign saying “Hi I am Matt, an analyst programmer with eight months IT and insurance,” before he nods and gives the thumbs up, while Analyst Jill Calloway made an animation with a laptop screen that turns to read “technology 33 years, insurance 9 years, cheers”.

One support team entry by Executive Assistant Tracy Fullerton featured a talking dog wearing a black mortarboard graduation cap who says “I am a puppy in programming and I am an old dog in finance”. The winner was support analyst Debbie Telford for her selfie wearing a paper bag with a smiley face and a card saying 9 years Broking and 8 years each of Insurance and IT Support experience.

The fun videos and pictures were entered with the lure of an air fryer each for Mr Oakley and Ms Telford as a prize – “one of the most purchased lockdown products” –for submitting the most original entry.
