Asian Claims Convention looks to the future

Attendance numbers for the Asian Claims Convention in Hong Kong this month are on course to surpass last year’s event in Singapore.

Australasian Institute of Chartered Loss Adjusters (AICLA) CEO Tony Libke says delegates to the Hong Kong event are drawn from the “broader claims community”, including loss adjusters, accountants, brokers and insurers from 14 countries.

The theme of the conference is “the ever-changing landscape of complex losses”, and Mr Libke says speakers have been chosen to reflect the industry’s current and future challenges.

“You try to address the contemporary issues while also looking ahead to the future,” he told insuranceNEWS.com.au.

Speakers and their topics include:

  • Peter Shelford, Managing Partner, DLA Piper Thailand: cyber crime risks in claims
  • John Allum, director, Hannaford Forensic Services, Hong Kong: the role of forensic science in fire claims investigations
  • Owen Sutherland, Regional Director, Insurance Recovery Services, Indonesia: disaster recovery in the landscape of complex claims
  • Kevin Yu, Senior VP, Lockton Companies Insurance Brokers, Shanghai: complex claims in China – a broker’s experience
  • Stephen Thorpe, MD, Integra Technical Services, Singapore: mega claims – why they are different
  • Nicholas Hyatt, Associate Principal, Thornton Tomasetti, London: robo-adjuster – technology in claims management.

The event will be opened and closed by AICLA President Michael Collins, at his first convention as President since being elected last October.

The convention is on March 24-26 at the Harbour Grand hotel in Kowloon. It is held in partnership with the Singapore College of Insurance.
