ARPC appoints Scott Unterrheiner CFO
The Australian Reinsurance Pool Corporation (ARPC) has appointed Gen Re’s Scott Unterrheiner as CFO, as it expands its operations to include cyclone-related cover.
Mr Unterrheiner is currently Gen Re CFO and Company Secretary for Australia and New Zealand for property and casualty reinsurance and life reinsurance.
The ARPC says Mr Unterrheiner, who will take up his new role in November, has a strong understanding of the Australian and international reinsurance sector and catastrophe reinsurance, and brings financial and actuarial leadership.
“I am delighted that Scott is joining ARPC, as he will strengthen ARPC’s catastrophe reinsurance capability while insurers transition to the cyclone reinsurance pool,” CEO Chris Wallace said.
“He will be a key contributor to both our continued work in terrorism reinsurance as well as building our cyclone reinsurance capability.”
Earlier in his career Mr Unterrheiner held roles spanning chartered accountancy, financial control and capital management in professional services and financial services firms.
ARPC Interim CFO Peter Matruglio will continue in the role until November.
Large insurers have until December 31 next year to reinsure cyclone risks with ARPC through the new pool, while small insurers have an additional 12 months. All insurers can voluntarily join the scheme before the mandatory deadlines.
