AR group yet to decide on new CEO
The Australian Fire Managers Association/Insurance Agents Association of Australia (AFMA/IAAA) has not decided whether to appoint a new CEO following the departure of Mark Silveira from the position.
“We’ll assess the position in due course,” Secretary/Treasurer Peter Steven told insuranceNEWS.com.au. “It’s not something high on the priority list at present.”
The association, which concentrates on professional development and networking opportunities for its members, has been in existence since 1996, and merged with the ailing IAAA in December 2010.
The group has about 200 authorised representatives and brokers as members who are spread throughout Australia.
Mr Steven, who has been secretary/treasurer since the formation of AFMA, says the combined group “has no ties to any other authorised representative group at all”.
He says it has no plans to acquire a financial services licence and will continue to concentrate on “things that benefit our members”.
He says Mr Silveira’s major role as CEO was to increase member numbers, and the AFMA/IAAA membership remains open “to ARs who fit the mould”.
More than 50% of the AFMA members who attended its first conference in 1996 are still members of the association.
