APRA announces scholarship winners
The Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) has named the recipients of this year’s Brian Gray Scholarship.
The program was established by APRA and the Reserve Bank of Australia in 2002, in memory of APRA’s former EGM policy research and consulting.
The scholarships, valued at $15,000 each, support the study of topics relating to the financial sector.
The recipients are:
- June Chan, PhD candidate, doctor of philosophy, University of NSW. She will research issues in funds governance
- Mitchell Harvey, honours candidate, bachelor of economics, Monash University. He will conduct quantitative research on the relationship between monetary policy shocks and asset bubbles
- Kevin Krahe, honours candidate, bachelor of actuarial studies and bachelor of economics, University of NSW. His research will focus on improving the hedging of risk associated with retirement income portfolios and developing a “value-based longevity index” to improve hedging efficiency and reduce basis risk.
The students will present their findings to APRA.
The scholarship is open to Australian and New Zealand citizens and permanent residents studying topics of relevance to prudential regulation.
