ANZIIF’s 'unsung hero' Bob McPherson dies

Robert “Bob” McPherson, who was NSW Branch Manager of the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF) for more than 25 years, has died aged 75.

ANZIIF told insuranceNEWS.com.au Mr McPherson was a devoted member of ANZIIF and the insurance community and was “legendary” in managing and promoting all ANZIIF NSW and ACT events, including the Reinsurance Study Course which has been held annually for more than 50 years.

“Bob is one of the unsung heroes who had a big influence on so many people in our wonderful industry, particularly those furthering their technical skills through ANZIIF,” a spokesman said.

“Bob was a dear friend of ANZIIF. He always had a smile on his face and was well known and loved by many in the Australian insurance industry.

“We are deeply saddened by his passing. He will be greatly missed.”

Mr McPherson was passionate about helping insurance professionals achieve qualifications and succeed in their careers and he dedicated many years supervising ANZIIF examinations before retiring in 2006.

Friends and colleagues joined his family to celebrate Mr McPherson's life at a service on Thursday morning at Camelia Chapel in Macquarie Park, Sydney.

He is survived by wife Michelle, his children Stephen, Carly and Kiri and seven grandchildren.
