‘An inspiring leader’: tributes paid to Floodmapp customer chief
FloodMapp chief customer officer Bruce Grady has died after a long battle with brain cancer.
The company’s founders, Juliette Murphy and Ryan Prosser, say he was “an inspiring leader in emergency management”.
“It is with a very heavy heart that we must share this devastating news with our community,” they said in a newsletter after Mr Grady’s death on July 20. “Our thoughts are with Bruce’s wife, his three loving children, and grandchildren.”
Mr Grady joined FloodMapp in May 2021 after spending a decade with the Queensland government. He was the state’s assistant director-general of emergency management from 2006 to 2013 – a period encompassing Cyclone Yasi and deadly floods.
“Bruce helped us understand all the ways in which emergency managers could use the [FloodMapp] product, and why it was so valuable for them by giving them the gift of time,” the newsletter said.
“His emergency management experience was truly eye-opening for all of us, and this helped us to further develop our product, frame the technical specifications and educate emergency managers on how emerging technology like ours can enable an emergency operations centre.
“His work has helped to save lives. Bruce, we will continue your mission and endeavour to make you proud as we serve emergency managers.”
