Allianz Trade reveals new Surety and Guarantees APAC head

Chris Markesteijn has been promoted to Allianz Trade Regional Head of Surety and Guarantees APAC, replacing Christopher Shortell who takes the role of Surety Services Director Americas.

Mr Markesteijn moves from Paris to Singapore for the role, and reports to Hong Kong-based Regional CEO Paul Flanagan and London-based Global Head of Surety Sean McGroarty.

“APAC is an important part of our global surety platform and capabilities. Chris brings a strong commercial focus and diversified skill set as our new regional leader,” Mr McGroarty said.

Mr Markesteijn joined Allianz Trade a decade ago. He was most recently Head of Multinationals Global Surety, was Senior Risk Manager of Group Surety Team between 2020 and 2022, and spent six years in the Netherlands at Allianz Trade. He previously worked at Rabobank and GE Capital.

Mr Flanagan says Asia Pacific is a region with diverse customer needs and business arrangements.

“Chris has the abilities and the tools to lead this line of business, which has been growing at a rapid pace in recent years to new heights,” Mr Flanagan said.
