AIG underwriter takes engineering scholarship

AIG Australia Underwriter for Energy and Engineered Risks Rowan Westbury has won a $6000 scholarship to attend a Munich Re seminar.

The competition – run by the Engineering Discussion Group (EDG) of NSW – was open to group members younger than 35.

Fifteen entrants submitted 2500-word essays on one of three topics: insuring renewable energy technologies; the impact of climate change on construction insurance; or the future of construction insurance over the next 25 years.

The other finalists were Henry Chen of Liberty International Underwriters, Michael Fung of Wotton + Kearney and Nick Tay of QBE.

Representatives from sponsors Munich Re and Norton Rose Fulbright sat on the judging panel with EDG members.

Mr Westbury, whose paper was on wind energy, “is so looking forward to his trip that he booked airfares and accommodation within days of winning,” EDG President David Hackforth told insuranceNEWS.com.au.

The two-week Munich Re Basic and Advanced Engineering Seminar will be held in Munich next month.
