AIG grants tackle rugby safety
All Blacks sponsor AIG will hand out $US50,000 ($53,472) in grants to improve rugby safety across the world.
Players from primary school to premiership level can submit videos and photos showing ideas for improving safety at their clubs.
Top proposals from Australasia, Asia and other regions will each receive a $US5000 ($5347) grant, and the six winners will then compete for $US20,000 ($21,389) of safety equipment or training.
“By collaborating our expertise in safety with New Zealand’s profile in rugby, we are able to use the power of two global organisations to make a difference,” AIG New Zealand acting GM Debbie Wilson said.
Example proposals include off-season conditioning programs, first-aid training and using slip-resistant tiles in clubhouses.
Entries close on October 31 and will feature on the AIG Rugby Safety Awards website, so ideas can be shared.
AIG is the official insurance partner of New Zealand Rugby Union and also supports USA Rugby, the Japan Rugby Football Union and youth programs such as Play Rugby USA.
