AFA Insurance founder Ross Porter dies
AFA Insurance founder and chairman Ross Porter died last week aged 72 after a battle with cancer.
Mr Porter founded Sydney-based AFA in 1992 and, after initially focusing on accident and health insurance, developed a broader product range which is now backed by Allianz Australia.
His sons remain active in the AFA business. David is MD of the company and Anthony is National Business Development Manager.
A friend, Cameron Douglas, who is Marsh Advantage Insurance National Industry Leader – Rural, says Mr Porter was “one of the most likeable, fun-loving and kind characters in an industry full of big characters”.
“Underneath Ross’ relaxed and charming exterior was a very intelligent businessman who grew a small family business into a serious player in the Australian market,” he said.
A service for Mr Porter’s friends and family will be held at the Manly Golf Club, 30-40 Balgowlah Road, on October 30 at 2pm.
