AFA Foundation helps Christchurch victims
The Association of Financial Advisers Foundation has presented $10,000 to the New Zealand Prime Minister’s Christchurch Earthquake Appeal.
AFA Foundation Chairman Brian Boggs says the money was raised by the members and the Million Dollar Round Table Pacific Region.
“Christchurch is still a scene of devastation,” said Mr Boggs, who has just returned from the city.
“The Christchurch Cathedral may have to be taken down entirely and a year on, the city continues to experience up to 10 aftershocks a day.”
The donation was given to New Zealand Consul-General Martin Welsh at the AFA Sydney GenXt Road Show.
He said several financial advisers were among the 181 people who lost their lives in the earthquakes, and tens of thousands of people are still suffering physically and emotionally.
“You really know who your friends are when the chips are down,” he said. “Australia and Australians didn’t need to be asked; they came forward in their thousands to help.”
Mr Boggs says the foundation hopes to continue to raise funds for Christchurch victims.
The AFA Foundation has previously helped many organisations including MS Research, Save the Children and Make A Wish.
