The Actuaries Institute has appointed Professional Financial Solutions (PFS) MD John Newman as President for this year.

Taylor Fry director Daniel Smith will be Senior VP and Finity MD Estelle Pearson – 2012 Actuary of the Year and the cover story subject in the December issue of Insurance News (the magazine) – is VP.

Mr Newman, who takes over from David Goodsall, has outlined plans to reposition the profession’s image and announced a review of actuarial education.

“Actuaries are uniquely placed to objectively analyse many of the challenges facing modern society because the profession assesses risks through long-term analysis, modelling and scenario planning across a wide range of business and regulatory problems,” he said.
