Lloyd’s coverholder SALT Marine Risks Australia has appointed Iain Sharples as Senior Marine Underwriter.

Mr Sharples will have underwriting responsibilities across all the firm’s lines, with a specialised focus on liability.

He joins the group following seven years at Zurich, where he was the national manager of its marine and transport liability operations. He also served at Thomas Miller for more than 20 years as a senior underwriter focusing on its marine liability portfolio.

SALT Head of Marine Andrew Black says Mr Sharples’ appointment “comes at a time when we have an increased focus on growing in the region”.

The marine risk specialist first entered the market in 2015, and has worked with brokers to provide underwriting solutions across Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific.
